was very much in love with cricket

According to Kamal Kant Batra, mother of martyr Vikram Batra, when the Kargil war was going on, one day Vikram made a satellite phone call to him from the basecamp. He asked Vikram the condition there, then he said that 'Mummy, I am having a lot of fun here. It feels as if I am playing a cricket match.

Stories heard from father in childhood made brave

Kamal Kant Batra tells that as a child, Vikram used to ask for stories at his leisure from father Girdhari Lal Batra (Vikram Batra Father Girdhari Lal Batra) at night with his brother. His father used to tell him the stories of heroes like Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose and Guru Gobind Singh. Since then, patriotism awakened in Vikram's heart and he also became brave. He was also very quick to read. He used to solve maths questions immediately.

'I still celebrate birthday'

Vikram's mother tells that she remembered a lot after seeing the film 'Shershah' which came last year. His brother Vishal and both his sisters still yearn to remember him on the day of Bhai Dooj. If there are marriages in the house, then everyone gets emotional after remembering it. In his memory, we have built a museum at home. Every year on 26th July, on Vikram's birthday, a flame is lit there. On this occasion, we make the food of his choice, halwa-puri, kadhi-rice, rajma-rice and keep it in front of the photo. After this, these mines are distributed among the needy.

Kamal Kant tells that whenever Vikram used to come home on holidays, he used to request Rajma-rice and Kadhi-rice from him. As long as he lived in the house, these things were made. While leaving, he used to take mango pickles, papads and home-made potato chips from home. He also loved chicken.

That's why Vikram was named Love.

Kamal Kant Batra tells that he likes to recite Ramcharitmanas since childhood. After two daughters, when two twin sons Vikram and Vishal were born, it seemed that Lord Ram had sent Luv-Kush to their house. That is why he named Vikram as Luv and Vishal as Kush.

Discomfort was starting from morning itself

Kamla Kant told that the day Vikram got the news of his martyrdom, he was feeling strangely restless since morning. In the afternoon, I started crying bitterly in school. My fellow teachers came to me and said that nothing will happen to your son. When I reached home after some time, two army officers were there. He informed about the martyrdom of Vikram. She says that Vikram had come home in Holi before the Kargil war. None of us knew then that this would be the last Holi with him.
