Days after the CBSE announced to conduct the Class 10 and 12 board exams in offline mode, students from over 15 states have reportedly moved the Supreme Court seeking direction to all boards not to hold exams via physical mode.
The students have reportedly sought an alternative assessment method for the board exams 2022, as announced by different state boards along with CBSE and ICSE, instead of holding offline exams.
According to Bar and Bench, the students have moved the plea through Child rights activist Anubha Shrivastava Sahai and the Students Union of Odisha. They have urged the apex court to direct all boards for declaration of results on time and an option for improvement exams.
The petitioners pointed out that subjecting them to write the exams in offline mode at a time when the Covid-19 cases are still high is in violation of their right to life.
Though education is important 'it is not more important than the lives and mental health of children, teachers, staff and parents of the children who will have to venture out to appear for physical exam', the petition stated.
As per Bar and Bench, the students have also sought direction to University Grants Commission to form a committee to declare the date for admission into various varsities and also come up with a formula for assessment of Class 12 students who want to pursue their further studies in non-professional courses.
