How long is the hiring process for government jobs?

To provide an unbiased opportunity to every citizen, the government has established dedicated Commissions for the Recruitment and training of personnel in the government department and ministries. We will discuss the methods and processes followed by these recruitment commissions.

Main methods of Hiring in Government and Associated Departments:

• Direct Recruitment

• Short-Term Contract

• Promotion

• Re-Employment

• Absorption

• Based on delegation

Now we will discuss each of these methods of Recruitment elaborately here.

Direct Recruitment: In this recruitment method, on-site recruitment drives are conducted through job fairs or internal placement cells. Direct Recruitment in the Government sector implies being open to all candidates rather than specific candidates such as ex-servicemen, retired, currently working employees etc. Private sector organizations usually follow this method.

Contractual or Project-Based Recruitment: Many government organizations often hire expert and capable candidates on a project basis or for a short duration, usually research-based jobs. This Recruitment can be extended as per the requirement and at the discretion of the government organization, or these contracts can automatically end after the period of the project is over.

Promotion: This is also an important and successful method of Recruitment used in government organizations based on experience for a specific work. The higher-level positions in government offices are filled through promotions so that the full potential of the experience of the candidate can be used for the specific work.

Re-employment: Under this method, candidates from different departments due to retire/transfer within a year are offered employment opportunities to utilize their operational and managerial skills. Such Recruitment is often done for important posts and tasks.

Absorption: When an officer working outside the cadre or the direct line of promotion is regularly absorbed in the post/grade, the post is treated as having been filled by the method of absorption.

Deputation/ Short-Term Contract: When an officer is appointed from outside the cadre or outside the direct line of promotion for a limited period by the end of which he will have to revert to his parent cadre, he is known to be on deputation or a short-term contract. These recruitments are also often done at a higher level, such as Recruitment for teaching, research, scientific and technical posts. At the same time, while recruiting for such posts, the government officials working under central government offices/ state governments/ union territories are given priority.

1. Release of Recruitment Notification. – The first step is to let the candidate know that there is a vacancy to fill out

2. Filling out application forms. – This is a positive approach, whereas a recruiter invites candidates and tries their best to more personally apply for the job.

3. Conducting Assessment or Screening for selecting suitable candidates. – It’s time for analysis. Here, I am an expert who will evaluate all the admissions forms based on the standards required for the job profile. The candidate will be analyzed .

4. Shortlisting of candidates. -this is a negative approach, where the recruiter’s focus is to decrease the number of applicants based on the evaluation made in the previous step.

5. Final selection process. – Now, from all the shortlisted candidates, the final selection will be selected

6. Suitable candidates recruited. – It’s time to recruit that candidate; the offer later and showing around the workplace will take place.
